The Tongass National Forest located in southeast Alaska has a NetMap dataset and analysis tool system that uses U.S.F.S. proprietary 20 m digital elevation models (DEMs) since 2012. The Alaska State mapping initiative (SDMI) is providing new, publically available higher resolution Interfermoetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (IfSAR) DEMs of 5 m resolution. TerrainWorks, in collaboration with the Tongass National Forest, is evaluating IfSAR DEMs on Chichigof Island to determine their ulitility in building new terrain models, including synthetic river networks. Timeline: Fall, 2015.
