Roaring Fork Conservancy: Crystal River Basin, Colorado: Watershed Assessment
The Roaring Fork Conservancy, in cooperation with the US Forest Service, used NetMap in the Crystal River basin (1,200 km2) to evaluate erosion sources and their impacts on river morphology and flooding potential in the community of Redstone. Of particular interest is to identify controllable sources of sediment, particularly in the Coal basin tributary (located just upstream of Redstone), to help alleviate channel aggregation and associated flooding in Redstone and in areas downstream.
The analysis revealed how spatial patterns of erosion (mass wasting and gullies) are related to a stationary wave of sediment in the vicinity of Redstone.
