Agashashok River, Arctic Alaska (USGS)

NetMap is being applied to a climate change study in the Agashashok River watershed located in Northwest Alaska by the US Geological Survey and TerrainWorks. The USGS program, Changing Arctic Ecosystems, in the Agashashok watershed (a tributary of the Noatak River) is designed to better understand how rising temperatures and associated permafrost melting are impacting fish habitats, in particular those of Dolly Varden and Grayling.

Of particular interest is to understand how permafrost melt will affect watershed hydrology, including surface and subsurface flows.

The Agashashok River is a candidate watershed for TEON (an observatory network administrated by the Arctic Landscape Conservation Cooperative [LCC]).

This is a 5 year study, starting in 2015.
